Heroes On The River

Heroes on the River is a non-profit organization that has captured the hearts of many and continues to impact the lives of combat veterans across the nation. Founded in 2016 by military veteran Adam Packham, Heroes on the River aims to bring together combat veterans through a variety of recreational activities that include hiking, camping, expeditions, skydiving, fishing tournaments, and winter sports. The organization’s mission is to provide veterans with a positive and exciting experience that connects them with the outdoors and their fellow veterans.

Packham, coming from a family with a strong military background, understands the importance of camaraderie among combat veterans. His desire to rekindle the bonds formed through military service has driven the organization’s success. Today, Heroes on the River boasts a growing community of combat veterans who share Packham’s vision.

“Jumping out of that airplane was definitely life changing. Ever since then, I have had a different approach to life and a renewed sense of purpose.”
-Edgar Garcia, VFW Commander

The organization’s impression on the lives of veterans cannot be overstated. Many combat veterans return home with physical and mental scars that are not visible to the naked eye. The invisible wounds of war can be devastating, and many veterans struggle to adjust to civilian life. Heroes on the River provides a platform for veterans to connect with one another and form lasting friendships through outdoor adventure programs.

The organization’s programs are designed to give veterans a positive and exciting experience that helps them connect with the outdoors and their fellow veterans. The Shenandoah Valley provides a beautiful landscape for many of their adventures. The organization recognizes the need for an outdoor veteran organization in the area, and it was important for them to run a non-profit where 100% of its profits fund their mission.

Through Heroes on the River, combat veterans can experience the camaraderie and excitement of their military service through outdoor adventure programs. The organization provides an outlet for veterans to engage in meaningful activities that help them rediscover their sense of purpose.

“The event had a brotherly atmosphere where approaching anyone was easy, as we all had an immediate bond, even though we had not yet met. The welcoming and warm environment exuded camaraderie and brotherhood, making it simple to connect with others.”
-Joseph Martinez, Co-founder of Troops Haul Junk

The power of Heroes on the River can be felt not only by the veterans who participate in their programs but also by the wider community. The organization extends its gratitude to Troops Haul Junk for its continued support and participation in Heroes on the River.

Bringing it All Together

Heroes on the River is a shining example of the power of community and the positive impact it can have on the lives of combat veterans. The organization’s commitment to bringing veterans together through outdoor adventure programs has transformed the lives of many and continues to inspire hope for a brighter future. Packham’s vision for Heroes on the River has become a reality, and the organization is poised to continue making a difference in the lives of combat veterans for years to come.

“My experience at Heroes on the River was truly inspiring. The event highlights not only veterans but combat veterans, those who have actually experienced combat while serving in our military. It was a moment in time for us all to reflect on those who have been in a war zone and exchanged fire with the enemy to come together and not have any negative thoughts other than facing a little fear, only happiness and brotherhood. Live music, food, socializing about our experiences and best of all…Free Fall!!“

-Chris Benson, Co-founder of Troops Haul Junk
